Principal's Message
Hello Taylor Community! My name is Jeremia (Mia) Canlas-Cruz, and last year was my first year of being a principal at Taylor Elementary. I have been an administrator for the past 13 years at the middle and elementary school levels, focusing on doing what is best for each child. Before becoming a principal, I taught kindergarten and second grade. Then, I became a literacy coach for three years. I am approaching my 24th year in education.
I take pride in communication, collaboration, consistency, organization, and attention to detail. In addition, I am passionate about equity, inclusion, rigor, and professional development for all school staff and students.
I attribute success as a site principal to being focused on building and nurturing relationships, strategic planning, the ability to think outside the box, supporting all staff, and engaging all parents and guardians. I am multilingual, able to communicate in English, Spanish, and Tagalog. Being multilingual helps communicate with multiple families, students, and staff groups.
I am also a parent in our district, and currently, my younger son attends TWBI at Del Roble Elementary School. My older son attended Herman Intermediate and will be a junior at Santa Teresa High School. My husband and I attended Berryessa School District, attended and graduated from Independence High School, and received our Baccalaureate Degrees from San Jose State University.
While not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and my sons' academic and extracurricular activities. Many of you may know me as a "baseball and basketball Mom" as I cheer for my sons during games and see some of you at baseball fields or basketball courts.
As the 2023-24 school year approaches, I continue to look forward to serving the Taylor Community. Together, we will make a difference in the lives of our students.
Yours truly,
Mrs. Mia Cruz
